GE Aviation Investing $25 Million for South Carolina Expansion

GE Aviation will expand its jet-engine parts manufacturing operations in Greenville, South Carolina, according to the Greenville News. The company will create 100 new jobs at an average starting salary of $27 per hour, bringing the total work force at that facility to 240. The project involves moving the operation, which produces turbine blades for regional jets and large commercial airliners, to a larger building, a 155,000-square-foot former auto supply plant. The News reports that GE Aviation officials would not comment on the total investment, but that paperwork on file with Greenville County as part of an incentives package indicates that the company will spend at least $25 million. The county will provide GE Aviation with a property tax break worth more than $3 million over 20 years, along with $300,000 for improvements to the building; no information was released regarding possible state incentives. Company officials say they plan to begin filling the new positions sometime next year.
