Paramount Citrus Creating 500 Jobs in Delano, California

02/17/2011
Paramount Citrus is opening a 600,000-square-foot mandarin orange packing house in Delano, California, next year that will create 500 local jobs, the Californian reports. Paramount specializes in oranges called California Cuties, a hybrid of a sweet orange and a Chinese mandarin.

The company began construction in November 2010 and plans to open next fall, according to Eric Johnson, vice president of capital projects for parent company Roll Global, LLC. A boom in the fruit's market drove the company expansion.

The new facility will operate six months of the year, but an existing plant is open nearly year-round.
