Electricfil Plans $9.5 Million Expansion Of Its Elkmont, Alabama Plant
02/29/2012
Electricfil plans to hire in stages with upwards of 120 employees added during the next three years, and the potential for 80 more jobs to be created few years after.
The French-based company, with US headquarters in this northern Alabama city of nearly 500 residents, plans a two-phase expansion. Company officials initially plan to expand the plant's manufacturing facility by 24,000 square feet this summer, followed by an 18,000-square-foot office addition next year.
To make expansion possible, the town of Elkmont, Governor Robert Bentley's office and state economic development officials provided a grant to address water-pressure problems at the Elkmont Industrial Park. The project also received a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
Mayor Tracy Compton noted if the company eventually hires 200 workers there would be almost as many employees working at the plant as there are residents of Elkmont, a town most known for being home to the famed Belle Chevre artisan goat cheese manufacturer.
