Michelin Investing $50M in Woodburn, Indiana, Tire Facility

03/22/2011
Michelin North America is investing $50 million and creating 35 new jobs in Woodburn, Indiana. The company will expand production at its BFGoodrich Tire plant, which produces tires for vehicles, bicycles, and heavy equipment.

"We are deeply grateful to the state of Indiana, Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance, and the county officials, all of whom were influential in helping to secure this investment," said Dent Johnson, plant manager of the Woodburn manufacturing facility. "This investment enables us to increase production capacity while continuing to deliver high-quality products to our customers. It will also upgrade the flexibility and capability of this facility to help improve its long-term competitiveness."

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has offered Michelin up to $250,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. Allen County will provide property tax abatement at the request of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance. WorkOne Northeast will provide recruitment and training support.

Michelin has maintained the Woodburn facility since 1961. It currently has 1.9 million square feet of production space.
