Bridgestone Invests Another $74 Million To Expand Its Des Moines Tire Plant
06/11/2012
The most recent $74 million expansion is an addition to a $77 million improvement project undertaken two years ago.
Bridgestone recently decided to invest an additional $74 million to its Firestone Tire factory on Second Avenue and Hoffman Lane in Des Moines, where it employees almost 1,700 workers.
The firm said it plans production enhancements to its tire production and curing buildings to meet the growing demand for the its commercial tire line, especially specialized radial agricultural, construction and forestry tires.
According to the firm's website, the Des Moines facility is currently hiring chemical assistants, maintenance engineering technicians, quality assurance workers and supervisors.
While state and local officials said the firm did not apply for assistance to help defray the cost of its latest expansion, two years ago the firm was awarded more than $100,000 in tax abatement credits and $600,000 in grants. No information was immediately available on whether the latest phase of enhancement will create additional jobs.
