Bimbo Bakeries USA, a subsidiary of Mexico-based Grupo Bimbo, is expanding its manufacturing operations in Orangeburg, South Carolina. This expansion is expected to create 30 new jobs in Orangeburg County over the next five years. The company plans to remain in its existing facility, located at 272 Broughton Street in Orangeburg, but will renovate and install new equipment to expand its capability.

Expansion of Bimbo Bakeries USA’s Orangeburg County operations is expected to be completed by the second quarter of this year. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $150,000 grant to Orangeburg County to assist with the cost of real property improvements related to the project.

“Bimbo Bakeries USA is excited to expand our baking operations in Orangeburg. Aside from its geographic advantage as a logistics center, Orangeburg has nurtured a business-friendly environment and a strong workforce that we hope will enable us to continue to grow in South Carolina,” said Bimbo Bakeries USA Orangeburg Plant Manager Gordon Powell.

“It’s exciting to see such a well-respected company, like Bimbo Bakeries USA, recognize the benefits of doing business in South Carolina and make the decision to expand here. Today, we congratulate this great American company on their $9.3 million investment and celebrate the 30 new jobs it’s creating in Orangeburg County,” said Governor Nikki Haley.

“When a firm with such a large, national footprint, like Bimbo Bakeries USA, decides to further invest in South Carolina, it’s truly a testament to our world-class workforce and pro-business climate. We celebrate this big win for the company, the Midlands Community and our state as a whole,” Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.

Bimbo Bakeries USA has long been an important member of the Orangeburg County community. We greatly appreciate the significant investments and job opportunities presented over the years. This announcement further demonstrates their commitment to our community,” said Orangeburg County Development Commission Executive Director Gregg Robinson.
