Cogentrix Builds 30,000MW Solar Energy Project Near Alamosa, Colorado

08/10/2010
Power company Cogentrix Energy will build the largest solar facility of its kind in the world near Alamosa, Colorado, the company announced yesterday. The facility will be able to produce 30,000 kilowatts of energy, and is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2012.

"Our focus has always been on developing quality power generation facilities that deliver reliable power to our customers," said Tom Bonner, president of Cogentrix. "We are pleased that our Alamosa Solar Generating project continues in that tradition."

The project will be located on 225 acres in Colorado's San Luis Valley, a site with a high altitude and plenty of sunshine. The project will produce enough electricity to power approximately 6,5000 homes.
