SNF Flopam Breaks Ground on $350M Plaquemine, Louisiana Chemical Facility

08/27/2010
SNF Flopam broke ground this week on a new specialty chemicals facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana. The project will create more than 500 jobs, and the company will invest $350 million.

"This facility is the largest, single greenfield investment in the history of our company," said SNF Holding Co. President Peter Nichols. "We've reached this significant point in our project with the tremendous support from the State of Louisiana and so many individuals in Iberville Parish. We look forward to executing our construction plans over the next few years and having a lasting impact on the parish and state."

The company will produce acrylamide monomer and polyacrylamide powders at the facility. The chemicals are used to purify water in wastewater treatment facilities. They are also used in oil and natural gas drilling to improve oil recovery.

SNF Flopam is expected to receive more than $39 million in state incentives for the project. More than $26 million will go towards constructing a rail spur and other infrastructure.
