Kemper Foods Expanding in Indiana, Adding 350 Jobs

11/10/2009
Kemper Foods International LLC will invest $6.8 million to expand its food production center in New Albany, Indiana, according to the Indiana governor's office. The company plans to create 350 new jobs over the next three years, including production associates, supervisors, and clerical staff. Kemper, which manufactures frozen foods for restaurants and brand-name retailers, will double the size of its 24,000-square-foot facility and add new equipment. "We are extremely excited by this business venture in New Albany," says Michael V. Kemper, the company's founder, chair, and CEO. "Indiana provides us with an ideal environment to grow this business because of its work force availability, excellent market access to serve our customers, and overall pro-business climate." The state has offered Kemper up to $1.1 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $145,000 in training grants, contingent on job creation; the city will consider additional property tax abatement and incentives.
