Canada-Based Smack Pet Food Plans Aberdeen, South Dakota, Operations
10/26/2024
The company will locate in a vacant facility on Corporation Street.
“I am proud of our team at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development for partnering with Smack Pet Food to bring their new location to Aberdeen,” said South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development Commissioner Joe Fiala. “South Dakota offers an ideal environment for their business to thrive, and we look forward to witnessing their continued growth.”
To support the project Smack Pet Food was approved for a $1 million Rural Economic Development Initiative loan and a $1.5 million SD Works loan. The funds will support the renovation of the former Banner Engineering building.
“Former CEO, Mike, put a lot of effort in,” noted Aberdeen Development Corporation CEO, Tim Hanigan. “We knew we had to act fast with some closures of some businesses in town, and so we really pursued, you know, Smack specifically pretty, pretty aggressively, but it also was a natural fit, so I think when we realized it was a really good fit, things just proceeded pretty quickly.”
Smack Holdings USA manufactures premium raw dehydrated pet food. The company provides products to Canadian and U.S. retailers.
