Blue Ridge Food Ventures Establishes Natural Products Plant in Asheville, North Carolina
11/09/2010
Mary Lou Surgi, executive director of Blue Ridge, says the facility will create jobs and help establish western North Carolina in the national natural products industry.
"Interest is high in this facility. We've already gotten calls from all over the country, and even as far as France," Surgi said. "They range from small businesses seeking a facility where they can cost-effectively manufacture their natural products and meet the new federal regulations, to larger companies that occasionally need a place to meet overflow demand. We're delighted to help grow the natural products industry locally, regionally, and nationally and, in doing so, contribute to the economy of western North Carolina."
The company invested $100,000 in the facility. The North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Golden LEAF Foundation, Blue Ridge, and Gaia Herbs provided funding for the project. Blue Ridge intends the facility to serve as a resource for smaller companies, food entrepreneurs, and artisan food producers.
