Target Corp. To Locate Online FulFillment Center In Memphis, Tennessee
12/11/2014
“Tennessee is a great market for Target stores, and we are excited to expand our presence in the state,” Mike Robbins, Target’s senior vice president of distribution, said. “We look forward to serving guests across the region from this new online fulfillment center in Memphis.”
The Memphis facility will be managed by a third-party vendor, Innotrac, and will service the Southeast United States. Target conducted a multi-state search and selected Memphis based on competitive costs, availability of workforce, real estate, local and state support, and accessibility. Hiring for the new facility is to begin in early 2015, and the fulfillment center is to be operational by mid-2015.
“We want to welcome Target to Tennessee and thank the company for investing in our state and adding more than 400 jobs to our Memphis workforce,” Governor Bill Haslam said. “It goes without saying that a company like Target can choose to do business anywhere in the country, so it means a great deal that they chose Memphis. We are always grateful for announcements like these as they help us toward our goal to make Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”
“Tennessee’s favorable central location and strength in transportation and logistics is second to none, and with convenient access to the Memphis International Airport, the No. 1 busiest cargo airport in the Western Hemisphere, Memphis is an extraordinary choice for Target’s newest online fulfillment center,” Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty said. “Target will be a great addition to the corporate landscape of Shelby County, and I applaud the company for its investment and confidence in our state and our exceptional workforce.”
"We are excited to work with Target through the final steps of the process in order to bring new jobs to the city of Memphis," Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. said. "Memphis continues to show its strength in distribution and logistics, and we look forward to adding yet another nationally known brand name to our distribution network.”
Tennessee Valley Authority Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley said, “It’s always great news and a boost to the economy when a company announces hundreds of new jobs, and we are pleased to partner with the state of Tennessee, the Greater Memphis Chamber, EDGE, and many other city and county leaders to support Target’s location decision.”
“We are thrilled to welcome the Target fulfillment center and its 400 jobs to the Memphis area,” Phil Trenary, President/CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, said. “Memphis continues to attract top companies like Target with its commitment to creating a quality workforce and long-standing reputation as a center for distribution and logistics.”
