Dow Chemical Closing Plants in Texas and Louisiana

The Dow Chemical Company is shuttering two of its vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) manufacturing plants this year. Facilities in Oyster Creek, Texas, and Plaquemine, Louisiana, will close in the first and third quarters, respectively.

"This is a continuation of the decisive actions taken by Dow to right-size our core chemicals manufacturing footprint and shift our basic feedstocks toward performance derivative businesses," said Carlo Guarino, global business director for Dow Chlor-Vinyl.

VCM is used to make PVC products such as building siding, energy-efficient windows, furnishings, carpeting, water piping systems, medical blood bags, and intravenous tubes.
