Subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries Opens Facility In Maryland, Plans To Create 100 New Jobs

04/19/2012
A subsidiary of defense electronics giant Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. North America, ELTA North America, plans to bring its high-tech electronics manufacturing to Howard County, Maryland's Maple Lawn area, creating 100 high-skilled jobs.

ELTA employs scientists, engineers, programmers and technicians that develop products for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance, homeland security and fire control.

According to the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, ELTA leased a 7,500-square-foot space with plans to expand it to 25,000 square feet as the company hires staff and expands its North American presence. As an incentive the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development awarded the firm a $300,000 conditional loan and Howard County offered property tax credits.

"We believe that leveraging the high-tech talent pool provided by the region coupled with the globally proven ELTA technology is a win-win for the customers of ELTA North America," said ELTA's President and CEO David Machuga. "It was clear from the beginning that the leadership in Maryland at all levels is focused on economic growth and high-tech jobs. This has allowed us to move quickly to the region and begin hiring."

"We are pleased to welcome ELTA North America to Maryland and want to thank the company for their commitment to investing in our State," said Governor Martin O'Malley. "Our strategic location accessible to many U.S. and foreign markets, coupled with one of the most highly-educated workforces in the country, will be a tremendous benefit to the company as they look to grow their U.S. customer base.

"I am excited and proud that ELTA North America has chosen Howard County," said County Executive Ken Ulman. "When I was in Israel last year I met with ELTA's parent company IAI Ltd. and felt that their management team truly understood that Maryland's and Howard County's highly-educated workforce and business friendly environment are the perfect fit for both sides.
