UTC Aerospace Systems Establishes Operations Center In Puerto Rico
09/21/2016
The company designs, manufactures and services integrated systems and components for the aerospace and defense industries. With more than 1,500 employees today, UTC Aerospace Systems' Santa Isabel campus has been in operation since 1992. Over the next three years the site will grow to accommodate the new center and business process service jobs.
Hector Ortiz, Director, Puerto Rico Operations for UTC Aerospace Systems, said, "Standing up the Business Services Center will enable us to achieve a seamless support structure for our business units and customers. It will also contribute to the economic growth of our company and Puerto Rico."
The commonwealth's Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO) assisted UTC Aerospace Systems with the lease of an existing 11,000 square-foot building that sits adjacent to the Santa Isabel manufacturing facility and will serve as the footprint for the center. PRIDCO will also assist both companies in meeting the necessary infrastructure, job creation and training requirements associated with the expansion.
The company is working with Accenture, a leading global professional services provider of industry and business process solutions for aerospace and defense organizations, company officials said. As part of the expanded capability, Accenture will hire, train and manage up to 150 new employees over the next three years. The establishment of the center marks Accenture's first service operation in Puerto Rico.
"Accenture and United Technologies Corp. continue to build on their long standing collaboration and we are excited to support UTC Aerospace Systems in their new Operations and Supply Chain Business Services Center," said John Schmidt, Global Lead for Accenture's Aerospace & Defense practice. "Accenture is committed to bring decades of experience to the center, tapping into the wealth of resident talent, and ultimately furthering operational performance for UTC Aerospace Systems. We appreciate the opportunity to establish our first operations footprint in Puerto Rico and contribute to the community and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico."
"Colleges in Puerto Rico award over 30,000 degrees each year," said Tanya Hooper, Vice President, Human Resources for UTC Aerospace Systems. "The community of Puerto Rico is booming with talent, and UTC Aerospace Systems is excited to work with Accenture on this promising new endeavor."
