Advanced Material Manufacturer to Invest $9.3 Million in New Facility Adding 300 Jobs to South Carolina’s Economy
09/07/2011
Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, ICI will locate the new operations facility in the former DANA building in the Orangeburg County/City Industrial Park, and do business there under the name EcoScapes Composites LLC.
The rural plant will produce turnkey, 880-square-foot "composite" housing that can be put together in about two days. Both earthquake and hurricane resistant, these housing units are portable "fast deployment" solutions for disaster relief situations, troop/command shelters and other housing needs.
The state of South Carolina provided training funds and job development credits (available if hiring targets are met), and the county provided ICI with a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement and a special source revenue credit.
Central SC Alliance Chairman Jim Apple said South Carolina continues to be a "magnet" for international investment with Canada leading the way as its Number One trading partner.
Bobby Hitt, Secretary of Commerce, added that "South Carolina's business-friendly environment continues to create jobs. We are not only adding a solid manufacturing firm to our state with this announcement, we are also strengthening our ties with our foreign trading partners."
The company will begin hiring for the new positions early next year.
