Alstom Plans Newark, Delaware, Operations

06/14/2026
Rail transportation company Alstom plans to establish operations in Newark, Delaware. The more than $55 million project is expected to create 100 jobs.

The investment will include the acquisition and development of a 20-acre site, which will feature a new maintenance building along with an outdoor storage track and a parts distribution center, that will service Amtrak’s NextGen Acela high-speed passenger trains. Operations are scheduled to begin in summer 2028.

“The Newark site will be central to ensuring the long-term performance and reliability of America’s fastest and most technologically advanced trains under our care,” said Michael Keroullé, President and CEO of Alstom Americas. “This site will support the local economy through added tax revenue and a total of 100 jobs. We are proud to continue operating in Delaware and we remain deeply committed to investing in our American operations to serve the U.S. market.”

The Delaware Prosperity Partnership worked with Alstom and local partners to support the project.

“Alstom’s investment in Newark is a major win for Delaware and for the future of public transportation along the Northeast Corridor,” noted Governor Matt Meyer. “Affordable, reliable rail service is vital for Delaware workers, families and businesses. This new facility will help keep one of the busiest transportation corridors in the country moving and will bring new jobs, new investment and long-term economic opportunity to our state.”

Alstom is a manufacturer of rail transportation equipment and provider of mobility solutions. The company designs, builds, and services high-speed trains, commuter rail vehicles, signaling systems, and rail infrastructure for transportation agencies.
