L3Harris Technologies Expand Millersville and Hanover, Maryland, Facilities
03/02/2021
According to the Maryland Department of Commerce, L3Harris will renovate its existing 45,000 square feet of space located on Benfield Boulevard in Millersville, and will also lease an additional 45,000 square feet on Candlewood Road in Hanover, giving L3Harris ample room to expand its high-tech engineering operations and incorporate high-tech manufacturing. The company’s planned growth also provides enough room to accommodate future expansions in the state of up to approximately 150,000 square feet of space.
“We are expanding our facilities and employment base here to address the growing demand for the solutions developed at our Maryland-based operations,” said Rosemary Chapdelaine, President, Maritime, L3Harris. “We greatly appreciate the area’s strong talent pool and our tremendous ongoing partnership with Anne Arundel County and the state of Maryland.”
As an incentive to assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Commerce has approved a $300,000 conditional loan through Advantage Maryland, formerly the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund (MEDAAF). Additionally, Anne Arundel County has approved a $30,000 workforce training grant to assist with growing the company’s workforce. L3Harris is also eligible for the More Jobs for Marylanders program, as well as the state's Job Creation Tax Credit.
“Not only will this expansion allow L3Harris to add new manufacturing aspects to its facility, but it will provide dozens of jobs to the local workforce,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly M. Schulz. “We thank the entire L3Harris team for their continued dedication and investment in Maryland.”
The company provides technology solutions to government agencies and commercial customers around the world, with specialties in air, land, sea, space and cybersecurity. It employs approximately 48,000 associates, with nearly forty-percent engineers and scientists.
“We appreciate our partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce in supporting L3Harris’s expansion in Anne Arundel County,” said Ben Birge, CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation. “This collaboration is a good example of how our investment can help grow our advanced manufacturing sector and translate into quality, high paying jobs.”
