05/10/2021
Jo-Ann’s 700,000-square-foot, $45 million, Opelika distribution center that the company opened in 2006 currently employs 285 associates.
“Jo-Ann Stores DC is a great community partner. It is a great testament to their workforce and the business climate in Opelika that they continue to invest and grow here,” said Lori Huguley, City of Opelika Economic Development Director.
According to company officials, “for more than 75 years, JOANN has inspired creativity in the hearts, hands, and minds of its customers. From a single storefront in Cleveland, Ohio, the nation’s category leader in sewing and one of the fastest growing players in the arts and crafts category has grown to include 855 stores across 49 states and an industry-leading e-commerce business.”
Jo-Ann Stores, Inc. is an American specialty retailer of crafts and fabrics based in Hudson, Ohio. It operates the retail chains JOANN Fabrics and Crafts and Jo-Ann Etc. The company, which has 855 shops located across 49 states, is headquartered in the former General Motors Terex plant.
Mayor Gary Fuller added, “Jo-Ann’s need for additional capacity is indicative of the company’s success. We are fortunate to have them in Opelika and pleased they are bringing more job opportunities to our citizens. I’d like to thank the city council for approving the tax abatement for this project.”
