SMR USA Plans $40 million Expansion At Its Marysville, Michigan Manufacturing Facility
05/28/2013
Plans for the Marysville expansion include the addition of a new paint line doubling current capacity, additional office space, and new molding equipment. SMR’s plans also include the acquisition of a 100,000-square-foot building in the City of Port Huron to serve its warehousing and distribution needs.
With this investment SMR will almost double its capacities to produce rear view mirrors for the North American automotive industry. SMR has weathered the automotive market meltdown in 2008 and 2009 and emerged stronger from this challenging time, company officials said. A strong order increase in the recent 24 months is expected to boost SMR market shares in North America significantly.
“The partnerships SMR shares with the State of Michigan, St. Clair County, and the City of Marysville are prime example of how community and the business enterprise can come together and collaboratively create opportunities resulting in revival of manufacturing sector in United States. I’m truly happy to see jobs coming back here”, said Char Zawadzinski, COO of SMR.
“The country, community and the company stood strong during the economic downturn – now it is time to prosper. It is exciting to be part of the growth for SMR and for the region”, Sai Tatineni, Managing Director of SMR USA added.
The company said its investment is supported by the state and local incentive packages, The Michigan Strategic Fund Board approved a grant from Michigan Business Development Fund.
