Frontier Logistics Expands North Charleston, South Carolina, Operations-Distribution Hub

Frontier Logistics, a provider of supply chain management services, is expanding its existing operations in Charleston County with the recent purchase of 26 acres at the former Navy base in North Charleston, South Carolina. The company plans to create 34 additional jobs.

The company will invest $35.5 million to construct a 400,000-square-foot, rail-served warehousing facility to support the transloading of plastic pellets for export through the Port of Charleston. Rail service will be provided by Palmetto Railways, providing connections to both Norfolk Southern and CSX.

“Charleston has significant logistical advantages that reach the entire world market, enough so that it compels us to make Charleston a comprehensive launching pad for future export/import and domestic logistics needs. We believe in the strong and effective leadership that has been shown to us by both the South Carolina Ports Authority and Palmetto Railways. We are very excited to get the new Charleston facility up and running in short order and become an even larger contributor and good neighbor in the greater Charleston community,” Frontier Logistics CEO George Cook explained.

“South Carolina is growing as a leader in global connectivity, and today’s announcement by Frontier Logistics will only bolster our credentials. I’m proud to see the longstanding partnership between our state and this terrific company continue to thrive,” said Governor Henry McMaster.

“Today’s announcement by Frontier Logistics is a testament to the distribution advantages and pro-business environment that South Carolina offers. We’re excited to have such a longtime member of the South Carolina business community grow their operations in the Lowcountry, and I congratulate them on this new $35.5 million investment,” Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.

“Frontier Logistics announcement is another signal to the global business community that Charleston County is positioned to move product efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. This is a significant investment for our area, and we congratulate all parties involved,” Charleston County Council Chairman Victor Rawl explained.

“With port expansion in North Charleston comes a growing need for nearby warehousing and distribution capacity. We are happy to see Frontier Logistics fulfilling this need,” said City of North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey.

“We are excited about Frontier’s expansion at the former Navy base and are thankful for their confidence in our relationship and the services we provide. This project will go a long way in the redevelopment of the area,” Palmetto Railways President & CEO Jeffrey McWhorter noted.

“South Carolina Ports Authority is pleased to congratulate Frontier Logistics on the expansion of their operations and new facility in North Charleston. Frontier is an important business partner for the Port and plays an integral role in the handling of our plastics and resins business. The addition of their facility will support considerable increases in expected growth within the plastics segment over the coming years, which is a key component of the Port’s planned above-market volume growth,” said South Carolina Ports Authority President and CEO Jim Newsome.
