04/17/2022
The new 52,388-square-foot facility will be leased from the city. The company currently also has manufacturing operations in New Albany.
“We are excited about the opportunity to be in Calhoun City. This is not only a good business opportunity for Albany but an excellent opportunity to work with the great people of the Calhoun City area. We were impressed with Calhoun City when we first visited, and we soon decided this was the place we wanted our next operation. We are very appreciative of the efforts the city made to secure us a location we could begin operating in as quickly as they did. We look forward to growing with and being part of the community there for many years to come,” Albany Industries Vice President of Operations Matt Ruth said.
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) and Appalachian Regional Commission are providing assistance for building renovations. The city also is assisting with the project.
“Mississippi’s economic development efforts continue to produce results in communities throughout the state, such as Calhoun City. The creation of these 85 new jobs will have a lasting positive impact on the local community and region as these new employees spend locally and contribute to a stronger tax base. MDA is proud to support this homegrown company as we bring home another economic development win for the state of Mississippi,” MDA Interim Executive Director Laura Hipp noted.
Albany Industries, LLC was founded in 1995, and production began with 15 employees in a 10,000 sq.ft. building in New Albany, Mississippi. Today, the company remains a domestic manufacturer of upholstered furniture pieces produced at four factories in three states, with over 1,200 employees. Albany’s vertical integration structure allows for control in all aspects of manufacturing and distribution.
“Creating 85 new jobs in our county will be an awesome opportunity for our citizens to work locally and save time and money by not commuting to work in other areas. We appreciate the support and hard work of Governor Tate Reeves, Mississippi Development Authority, Appalachian Regional Commission, Three Rivers Planning and Development District, Calhoun County Board of Supervisors and its President Barney Wade, and Calhoun City Mayor Marshall Coleman to bring this manufacturer to our county,” added Sheila M. Freely, Director, Calhoun County Economic Development Association.
