Coca-Cola Bottling Company United Expands Birmingham, Alabama, Operations
05/29/2024
The investment includes the construction of a new facility that will feature a 150,000-square-foot multi-floor office complex and a 300,000-square-foot warehouse. The location will house the Birmingham Coca-Cola sales center as well as Coca-Cola UNITED’s Corporate, Central Region and North Alabama Division headquarters.
“Our story began more than 120 years ago in Birmingham, and with this investment, our story will continue for years to come,” said Coca-Cola UNITED President and CEO Mike Suc. “Today’s announcement reflects our long-standing commitment to our associates, our customers and the communities we have the honor of serving. It is through our strong relationships that we have arrived at this defining moment in our company’s history, and we are grateful to our local and state officials and partners for their support in our continued success.”
The project is being supported by a city incentive package that will include the construction of an access road and $400,000 for water infrastructure improvements. The city will also grant abatements of construction-related sales and use taxes for the project as well as non-educational ad valorem taxes for 15 years. In addition, the project will receive abatements for noneducational ad valorem taxes imposed by the state and Jefferson County for 10 years.
“UNITED’s impressive new facility will become an eye-catching gateway to Birmingham and transmit the powerful signal that the Magic City is a great place to do business,” noted Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “Launching this project, in this particular location, perfectly exemplifies how this world-class company is giving back to its community."
Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc. is a private Coca-Cola bottling company and is the second-largest privately held Coca-Cola bottler in the U.S.
