The automaker will reportedly invest $700 million at its Toledo Assembly North Plant to construct the next-generation Jeep Wrangler and expand production of its SUV, adding approximately 700 associates. In Belvidere, the company plans to spend $350 million to prepare that plant to assemble the Jeep Cherokee, adding about 300 workers. The Belvidere Assembly Plant will produce the Jeep Cherokee, which will move from its current production location i 2017 in Toledo, Ohio. Approximately 300 new jobs will be created. Production of the Dodge Dart and the Jeep Compass/Jeep Patriot will end in September 2016 and December 2016, respectively.
Ohio Governor John R. Kasich praised Fiat Chrysler’s plan to create approximately 700 new jobs and retooling its Toledo plant.
He said, “an announcement of new jobs coming to Ohio is always exciting, but I am particularly thrilled to hear that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is going to expand the capacity of Wrangler production in Toledo and add about 700 new jobs there. Wrangler and Toledo have become close to synonymous in recent years. To see those links further strengthened is proof of our new agility in bringing jobs and business growth to Ohio.”
These production actions are subject to the formal approval of incentives by state and local entities, company officials said.
