Science Supply Company Investing Nearly $9 Million for Virginia Expansion

10/19/2009
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a supplier of equipment and services to medical and scientific customers, will invest $8.9 million to expand its facilities in Middletown, Virginia, according to the Virginia governor's office. The company plans to hire 50 new employees as it adds a new medical liquid formula line to its existing operations. "The Thermo Fisher Middletown facility is one of two Centers of Excellence for our Clinical Diagnostics operations in the U.S.," says Dr. Yuh-geng Tsay, head of the company's Specialty Diagnostics business. "Increased customer demand for the types of products manufactured in Middletown made it a natural choice for expansion, and we're pleased that agencies and government officials at both state and local levels worked with us to make this possible." The state will provide the company with a $90,000 grant, as well as training assistance.
