GE Adding 25,000 Electric Vehicles to Global Fleet by 2015
11/15/2010
"Electric vehicle technology is real and ready for deployment, and we are embracing the transformation with partners like GM and our fleet customers," said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt. "By electrifying our own fleet, we will accelerate the adoption curve, drive scale, and move electric vehicles from anticipation to action."
The project represents the largest-ever single electric vehicle commitment. GE will purchase 12,000 GM vehicles, starting with the Chevrolet Volt in 2011. As automakers develop new electric models, GE will add vehicles.
GE owns one of the world's largest fleets. It currently has 30,000 vehicles in its global fleet.
The electric vehicle customer experience and learning centers are slated for Van Buren Township, Michigan, and Eden Prairie, Minnesota. These centers will track and evaluate vehicle performance, charging behaviors, driver experiences, and service requirements.
