Ceramic surface-finishing products manufacturer VITREUS USA has established manufacturing operations in Newberry County, South Carolina. The $800,000 project is expected to create 15 jobs.

The company's new facility, located at 200 Park Avenue, will develop and manufacture ceramic coatings, glazes and decorative surface-finishing products for the brick and roof tile industries.

“Building on several years of successfully supplying the North American market from Germany, VITREUS is responding to strong growth in customers and order volume by establishing local production in the United States. With our new production facility in Newberry, we can serve our customers faster and more flexibly, backed by the expertise of our European team. We thank the state of South Carolina, Newberry County and our local partners for their outstanding support,” said VITREUS USA CEO Joachim Grothe.

VITREUS USA specializes in the development and manufacturing of ceramic surface-finishing products for construction materials. The company produces engobes, glazes, granulates and color pigments used to provide decorative finishes for facing bricks and clay roof tiles.

“We are excited to welcome VITREUS USA to South Carolina,” noted Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III. “The company’s decision to invest in Newberry County and partner with S.C. Commerce’s Landing Pad Program reflects the business-friendly environment found here in our state.”

“VITREUS USA’s manufacturing expansion to Newberry County builds on South Carolina’s strong foothold in advanced manufacturing, and it benefits from the competitive edge that SC Ports provides to companies throughout the entire state. SC Ports looks forward to continuing to support VITREUS USA’s supply chain needs with connectivity to global markets and highly productive port service,” added SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace.
