Eli Lilly and Company Plans Huntsville, Alabama, Manufacturing Operations
12/18/2025
The investment will include the construction of a more than 1-million-square-foot manufacturing facility, located on a 260-acre site at the northeast corner of I-565 and Greenbrier Parkway, which will produce small molecule synthetic and peptide medicines. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2032.
"By establishing this new facility, Lilly is deepening America's expertise in advanced chemical synthesis and setting new standards for sustainable manufacturing," said Edgardo Hernandez, executive vice president and president of Lilly Manufacturing Operations. "Our investment not only expands our technical capabilities but also reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship, leveraging innovative processes to minimize waste and achieve carbon neutrality. Each step forward strengthens our U.S. operations and supports healthier communities for the future."
To support the project AIDT, Alabama’s primary workforce development agency, will assist Lilly with an on-site training center and provide help in assembling and training the workforce.
“The competition for a manufacturing facility of this magnitude is extremely challenging, and this result shows Alabama’s pro-business climate, outstanding workforce and strong community support is a winning combination,” noted Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.
“Today’s announcement is the result of years of preparation in our life sciences sector with our partners at the city, state, HudsonAlpha, our schools and universities and the community as a whole that has embraced biotech the way we embraced space exploration,” added Lucia Cape, senior vice president of Economic Development & Workforce for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. “Huntsville continues to be a smart place for meaningful careers in all of our targeted industries.”
