The facility will specialize in laser welding, cutting, ablating, and marking metal and plastic materials within the precision medical device market.
According to company officials, the new division will feature state-of-the-art technolog, including Nd:YAG lasers, fiber lasers, and ultrafast lasers, to provide its customers with unrivaled capabilities. Biomerics Advanced Laser will also offer a portfolio of secondary processes, such as cleaning, passivation, heat setting and electropolishing, that will allow it to provide beginning-to-end solutions to the precision medical device market. Biomerics Advanced Laser's product offerings will include precision tubes, stents, valve bodies, specialty surgical device components, implantables, and catheter systems.
Biomerics Advanced Laser, which will have expertise in areas like laser fabrication of flat stock, metal tubes, plastic tubes, electrodes, bands, wire assemblies, and cannula assemblies, will be led by Mark Dustrude.
"I look forward to leading Biomerics Advanced Laser," stated Mark. "My vision is to create a laser development and manufacturing business that will provide solutions to the most challenging medical problems. My passion is working with customers to enable innovative solutions and on-time delivery of projects."
Travis Sessions, CEO of Biomerics, added, "Mark is known for his expertise in laser machined components and customer service. We are excited to add Mark to our executive management team and look forward to his leadership and innovation in this critical growth area. This addition furthers our growth strategy and complements Biomerics' existing materials, molding, extrusion, and advanced catheter manufacturing businesses."
The facility, which is ISO-13485 certified and FDA registered, is currently home to Biomerics Advanced Catheter, a division of Biomerics dedicated to the design, development, and production of advanced catheters and device leads.
"With the addition of laser manufacturing, this facility now offers full service precision extrusion, catheter braiding and coiling, reflow, assembly, and packaging operations," remarked Steve Berhow, President of Biomerics Advanced Catheter.
