Czech Republic-Based GHH-BONATRANS Plans Wayland, New York, Production Operations

05/05/2026
Czech Republic-based railway component manufacturer GHH-BONATRANS plans to establish operations in Wayland, New York. The up to $93 million project is expected to create 85 jobs in Steuben County.

The investment will include construction of a new manufacturing facility, located at Wayland Business Park, which will serve customers across the U.S. and Canada. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2028.

“Establishing manufacturing operations in Wayland reflects our commitment to supporting customers closer to where they operate,” said Jirí Kaleta, President and CEO of Bonatrans North America, Inc. “This proximity allows us to better understand local needs and deliver solutions that create value for our partners.”

To support the project, Empire State Development is providing up to $1.25 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit Program incentives tied to job creation.

“Next-generation railway manufacturing remains a critical industry for Upstate New York,” noted Hope Knight, President, CEO and Commissioner of Empire State Development. “This project strengthens the region’s transportation manufacturing cluster and supports long-term economic growth.”

The project is further supported by a $16.9 million POWER UP grant awarded to the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency to enhance infrastructure at Wayland Business Park, including expanded electrical capacity to support advanced manufacturing operations.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Bonatrans North America, Inc. to Steuben County,” added Steuben County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director James Johnson. “This significant investment reflects not only the strength of our community and its strategic location, but also the work we have placed on site readiness and infrastructure development at the Wayland Business Park to support projects of this scale. I want to thank our many partners in economic development at the state and local levels whose collaboration helped make this project possible. GHH-BONATRANS’ decision to establish its first U.S. headquarters here speaks volumes about the competitiveness of our community, and we look forward to supporting the company as it grows and creates high-quality jobs for our residents.”

GHH-BONATRANS is a manufacturer of railway wheelsets, axles, and related components for rolling stock applications, supplying products to rail operators, manufacturers, and maintenance providers worldwide. The company’s operations include forging, machining, assembly, and servicing of rail components.
