Quantinuum Expands Albuquerque, New Mexico, Operations

Quantum computing company Quantinuum plans to expand its operations in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The company' s new research facility, located at located at 5501 Wilshire, will feature advanced laboratories and office space, supporting research and development in integrated photonics, a critical technology for the next generation of its trapped-ion quantum computing platform.

“New Mexico offers a rich ecosystem that is not only valuable for Quantinuum to advance its own quantum computing technology but also to help bolster U.S. competitiveness in quantum computing on a global scale,” said Dr. Jennifer Strabley, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Compute Platforms Group at Quantinuum. “Integrated photonics R&D is a critical part of our technology roadmap and we’re building out this crucial capability right here in Albuquerque.”

To support the project, the City of Albuquerque and State of New Mexico will each provide $750,000 through their Local Economic Development Act funds, representing a combined $1.5 million investment.

“Quantinuum's decision to expand here is another clear signal that New Mexico has become the Next Frontier for the companies that will define the future,” noted New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Rob Black. “We're building an ecosystem where groundbreaking technologies can move from the lab to the marketplace while creating lasting economic opportunity for New Mexicans.”

Quantinuum develops quantum computing hardware and software, including trapped-ion quantum computing systems and technologies designed to support applications across areas such as healthcare, finance and artificial intelligence.

“Quantinuum's expansion is another milestone for Albuquerque's growing quantum scene,” added Albuquerque Economic Development Director Max Gruner. “Our unique mix of national labs, universities, and a highly skilled workforce continues to attract firms developing transformative technologies. Quantinuum's investment further establishes Albuquerque as one of the nation's top spots for quantum innovation.”
