SMW Automotive Opening Auto Parts Facility in Shelbyville, Tennessee
08/26/2010
"We are looking forward to launching this new plant close to our customers and suppliers," said Tom Bane, SMW's director of manufacturing. "The Shelbyville area has a skilled, solid and reliable work force, supported by the Tennessee Technology Center with CNC machining, metrology and assembly training programs."
Matt Kisber, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, said the presence of companies like Nissan and Volkswagen in the state creates a ripple effect that brings investment and jobs.
"Tennessee's strategy of identifying and securing business 'anchors' capable of generating follow-on investment like SMW Automotive means more high-skill, good-paying jobs are available for Tennesseans," Kisber said.
SMW is based in Troy, Michigan, and provides the auto industry with steering knuckles, control arms, wheel hubs, and brake corner assemblies from its eight manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia.
