Japan Based FCC (Adams) Expands Manufacturing at Bernie, Indiana, Complex
12/13/2018
FCC (Adams) will invest over $24 million to expand its 436,700-square-foot facility, constructing and equipping an 88,000-square-foot addition. The expanded space will house a new aluminum die cast machine process, six CNC lathe processes and four CNC drill processes. Construction is expected to begin in February 2019.
The company currently employs 675 associates in Berne as well as 790 at its second Indiana facility in Portland. This marks the company’s sixth major expansion since beginning operations in 2003, following a $128.9 million investment announced in 2015.
“FCC (Adams) is pleased to announce plans to expand its Berne, Indiana facility,” said Shinsuke Kambara, President of FCC (Adams). “The expansion is in response to growing customer demands.”
As an incentive, Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered FCC (Adams), LLC up to $400,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. In addition, the city of Berne and Northeast Indiana Works will consider additional incentives and training services, respectively, at the request of the Adams County Economic Development Corporation.
“FCC (Adams) is a significant part of Indiana’s leading automotive industry, which is producing safe and reliable products used every day across the world,” Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger said.
FCC (Adams) is a subsidiary of its Japanese parent company, FCC Co. Ltd., which was established in 1988 and serves automotive customers like Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawaski, Harley-Davidson and BMW. The company operates 22 plants in 10 countries, including three facilities located in the United States, two of which are in Indiana. FCC Co. Ltd. is the only clutch assembly manufacturer that maintains comprehensive product development and manufacturing systems encompassing everything from development of friction material to assembly.
“We are very excited FCC has chosen to expand their operations here in Berne,” said Berne Mayor Bill McKean. “They are a great company. The city has done everything we can to help them grow, and we are glad it has worked out so well. In turn, they have been an outstanding employer for our community and workers. It has been a real pleasure to work with them, and hope to continue to do so for a long time to come.”
