CentrePort Canada is Manitoba’s 20,000-acre inland port and Foreign Trade Zone. Located in the heart of North America, CentrePort connects to major national and international trade gateways and corridors, and is the only inland port in Canada with direct access to tri-modal transportation, truck, rail and air cargo.
Goodman, an HVAC distributor and manufacturer headquartered in Houston, Texas, set up their first Manitoba distribution centre at CentrePort in 2014.
Outgrowing their 12,000 square foot space in just three years, Goodman has moved next door into a 28,000 square foot office and warehouse space that adds a new showroom and training centre to their storefront.
“We have seen tremendous growth since we first opened our branch at CentrePort,” said Scott Croghan, Branch Manager at Goodman. “Our new facility will continue to provide us with access to expressways like CentrePort Canada Way and the Perimeter Highway, which ensures our trucks are moving at highway speeds within minutes of leaving our warehouse. The increased space also supports our operational and employee growth strategy.”
Goodman’s neighbor in the new building will be Ply Gem, a leading Canadian manufacturer of exterior building products.
“Having Goodman and Ply Gem fully operational in their new facilities speaks to Manitoba’s many competitive advantages,” said Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Blaine Pedersen, on behalf of the Manitoba government. “Our diversified and resilient economy, in combination with our central North American location and international transportation access, makes our province an ideal place for business to invest, build and grow. We are confident this achievement will spur additional trade and economic development opportunities moving forward.”
“CentrePort is an ideal location for Goodman and Ply Gem, the Manitoba-based facilities of both companies are key to their national distribution networks,” said Diane Gray, President & CEO of CentrePort Canada. “Their new facilities at North America’s largest inland port will give them excellent access to trucking and transportation, and increased space to accommodate their rapid business growth.”
Since 2009, an Alberta-based development company and Shindico Realty injected over $50 million dollars into Brookside Business Park with over 14 acres still planned for development. Shindico Realty manages the development of Brookside Business Park and assisted in building the facility that Goodman and Ply Gem now call home.
“We welcome Ply Gem and are excited to have worked with Goodman again to accommodate their need for a larger space,” said Robert Scaletta, Senior Vice president, Industrial at Shindico Realty. “Working with CentrePort has boosted our ability to attract new business to Brookside Business Park, creating new jobs and business development opportunities at the inland port and in our province.”
Goodman and Ply Gem are the latest companies to move or expand operations at CentrePort which has welcomed 51 new businesses since 2009 on approximately 300 acres, representing more than $300 million in new capital investment.
