Room & Board Plans Warehouse-Distribution Hub In Newton, North Carolina
05/04/2017
The company intends to invest $12,870,000 and create at least 13 new jobs by the end of 2020 on a 41-acre site in front of the Target distribution center on Highway 10.
As an incentive, a grant equal to 50% of the new property taxes generated for three years was approved by the Catawba County Board of Commissioners on Monday and a like incentive was approved by the Newton City Council on Tuesday evening.
“Room & Board is pleased to be partnering with The Keith Corporation to build a new 250,000 square foot distribution center in Catawba County,” said Jerry Testa, Room & Board, Director of Distribution. “This facility will support our future growth as well as serve us well logistically with several manufacturing partners nearby. We’re looking forward to being part of the community for many years.”
“We are excited that Room & Board has chosen Newton for the location of their new distribution center, and we look forward to working with them as they establish their new facility,” said Newton Mayor Anne P. Stedman. “We are confident they will find Newton to be a welcoming community eager to help them grow and provide even more opportunities for our citizens and our local furniture manufacturers.”
“Furniture has been a backbone of Catawba County’s economy since its beginning, and it is not surprising that Room & Board would want to be close to their partners and the strong furniture cluster here,” said Catawba County Commission Chair Randy Isenhower. “We are proud of the quality furniture made by our local manufacturers and appreciate Room & Board’s commitment to these companies and to Catawba County.”
“Room & Board is a well-known in the furniture industry and we are pleased to add their name to the distinguished list of companies operating in Catawba County,” said Catawba County Economic Development Corporation Board Chairman Dan Timmerman. “Their partnerships with local manufacturers will be strengthened by establishing this new location and help all parties grow and flourish.”
