“I’m excited to be working with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and an excellent, fashion conscious Cumberland County workforce to open thredUP’s first east coast distribution center,” said John Voris, Chief Operating Officer at thredUP and former Vice President of Operations Engineering at Netflix. “thredUP’s growth is accelerating into the new year, with sales up 3x, our west coast employee count has more than doubled since early 2014, and we are committed to building an all-star team in Mechanicsburg by the end of this year.”

The company received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development including $900,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits. The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team in collaboration with the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation.

“This is another example of our continued efforts to build a stronger Pennsylvania where innovative job creators such as thredUP are locating to thrive,” said Governor Tom Corbett. “We are proud to partner with thredUP to support the creation of 300 new jobs at their new eastern U.S. facility in Cumberland County.”

One unique attribute of thredUP’s business model is that all permanent employees are offered stock options and therefore have the opportunity to partake in the success of the company as a part owner, the Governor’s Office said.

“Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation is delighted with thredUP’s recent decision to locate its east coast operations here in Cumberland County,” said Mary Kuna, Market Development Manager, CAEDC. “thredUP is making a considerable investment in the area and utilizing an existing facility for their operations. We look forward to having thredUP as the newest member of Cumberland Valley’s thriving business community and will continue to seek out opportunities for businesses to take advantage of our current facilities.”
