Coast Packing Company Establishes Amarillo, Texas, Operations
02/09/2025
The investment will include the construction of a 10,000-square-foot refinery building and a 36,000-square-foot packaging and warehouse building. Operations are scheduled to begin in June 2026.
"This groundbreaking marks not just the start of construction, but the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Coast Packing Company and the Amarillo community," said Eric R. Gustafson, CEO of Coast Packing Company. "For over a century, Coast has been committed to quality, innovation, and tradition in the food industry. Our new state-of-the-art facility in Amarillo will allow us to continue leading the industry in animal fat shortenings while creating new opportunities for local families, supporting economic growth, and reinforcing our commitment to sustainability. We are honored to partner with this vibrant community and look forward to many successful years ahead."
To support the project the Amarillo City Council unanimously approved an economic incentives package. Under Ordinance 8026, 30 acres near Centerport Boulevard and Folsom Road were designated as Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 21 for commercial and industrial abatement. In addition, the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation agreed to convey that land, valued at $1.2 million, to Coast Packing and provide up to $720,000 in job-creation funds over a 10-year period.
“Normally, projects take about 18 to 24 months before a groundbreaking,” noted Doug Nelson, senior vice president of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. “In this particular case, the company had several hurdles to clear, so it’s very gratifying for our community to see it finally come to fruition. We’re excited about the additional jobs for Amarillo.”
Coast Packing Company is a supplier of animal fat shortenings. The company's clients include manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and smaller food service operations.
