Scout Space Plans Merrifield, Virginia, Production Operations

06/15/2026
Space technology company Scout Space plans to expand its operations in Fairfax County, Virginia. The more than $1 million project is expected to create 31 jobs.

The company’s new 2,650-square-foot manufacturing facility in Merrifield will support the production and development of technologies designed to improve space domain awareness and satellite operations.

“Fairfax County offers an exceptional environment for innovation, talent, and collaboration, making it the ideal location for Scout Space’s continued growth,” said Josiah Gruber, CEO of Scout Space. “This expansion reflects both the increasing demand for advanced space domain awareness capabilities and our commitment to building the technologies that enable safer, more dynamic operations in orbit. We’re proud to deepen our presence in Virginia and create high-quality jobs while advancing the future of space operations.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) worked with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to secure the project and will support Scout Space’s job creation through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program. VJIP provides consulting services and funding to support employee recruitment and training activities for companies creating new jobs in the Commonwealth.

“From a collaborative business climate to world-class talent, Virginia provides everything companies like Scout Space need to grow both their strategic footprint and their workforce,” noted Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery. “As Scout Space celebrates this exciting expansion, the Commonwealth is proud to support their mission to make the global satellite network smarter, stronger, and safer for everyone.”

Scout Space develops sensor systems, autonomy software, and data platforms for satellite operators and space missions. The company’s technologies are designed to provide space domain awareness, orbital intelligence, and operational capabilities for commercial and government customers.

“Fairfax County continues to attract and grow companies at the forefront of the new space economy, and Scout Space is a tremendous example of that success,” added Victor Hoskins, President and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). “Their expansion demonstrates the strength of our technology ecosystem, access to world-class talent, and proximity to key federal and industry partners.”
