Express Grain Terminals Expands Greenwood, Mississippi, Processing Plant
10/27/2016
“We are excited to expand our operations in the Greenwood area to include soy processing. We thank MDA for helping us secure sales tax and other incentives which helped make this project a success,” said Express Grain Terminals President John Coleman. “We look forward to serving the Mississippi agricultural community for years to come.”
Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance for an access road to the new facility. The city of Greenwood and Leflore County provided ad valorem exemptions and other incentives relevant to the Growth and Prosperity Act.
Express Grain Terminals’ expansion involves the addition of a soybean processing plant in Greenwood. The new facility processes local soybeans into soybean meal and hulls, which are then sold to the state’s animal feed markets. Additionally, the plant produces soybean oil, which is sold to edible oil and biodiesel refineries. In addition to the 65 new employees at its soybean processing plant, Express Grain Terminals employs another 100 at its three locations.
“Agribusiness is a significant economic driver in Mississippi. I am glad Express Grain Terminals found the resources and skilled workers needed to grow. This project will help boost the economy in Leflore County and the entire Mississippi Delta region,” Governor Phil Bryant said.
“Mississippi’s existing businesses, like Express Grain Terminals, enhance the quality of life in their communities by providing Mississippians with exciting new career opportunities when they expand their operations,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough Jr. “We salute the partnership of our teammates at the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation, the city of Greenwood and Leflore County for their teamwork with MDA to help Express Grains grow in Greenwood.”
