Aqua Membranes Plans Knoxville, Tennessee, Manufacturing Operations

11/13/2025
Water treatment company Aqua Membranes plans to establish operations in Knoxville, Tennessee. The $6.6 million project is expected to create 95 jobs.

The investment will include the construction of a new manufacturing facility in the Forks of the River Valley Industrial Park.

"Specifically in East Tennessee — as with lots of places — electricity is a scarce resource," CEO of Aqua Membranes Craig Backman said. "It's getting more expensive for all of us, and any place we can take manufacturing and take demand off the grid, and allow it for other beneficial use, is good for everybody."

Aqua Membranes develops and manufactures spiral-wound membrane elements using its patented Printed Spacer Technology®.

“With strong leadership, sound infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce, Knoxville is primed to support Aqua Membranes’ second U.S. facility. We realize companies always have a choice in where they choose to invest, and we stand ready to support this company’s growth and success in the years to come,” Deputy Governor and TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter noted.

“Creating job opportunities and bringing investment to the region is fundamental to TVA’s mission of service. We are proud to partner with Knoxville Utilities Board, the Industrial Board of Knox County, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, East Tennessee Economic Development Agency, City of Knoxville, Knox County and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to further that mission and welcome Aqua Membranes to the region. We wish you success and look forward to working together to serve the Tennessee Valley,” John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of economic development added.
