John Mezzalingua Associates Expands Operations in Onondaga, New York

Wireless Communication Equipment Manufacturer John Mezzalingua Associates moved its operations complex to expand its headquarters in Liverpool, Onondaga, New York.

The company relocated its antenna systems group operations from Maryland to its headquarters in Liverpool, Onondaga County earlier this year. The project involved building renovations, new construction, and the purchasing of new machinery and equipment. The move has already allowed the company to create 288 new full-time jobs, adding to its existing workforce of 319 in Central New York.

JMA Wireless CEO John Mezzalingua said, “As an innovator of wireless technology with deep roots in Central New York, we are proud to build and expand our company here in Central New York. Thanks to Governor Cuomo’s economic development initiatives, we have been able to add jobs and make significant investments not only in our company but in our community.”

To encourage JMA to move its out of state operations to Onondaga County, Empire State Development will provide incentives of up to $8 million, with $5 million through a Capital Grant and $3 million through the Excelsior Jobs Program in exchange for job commitments. The total project cost is estimated at a little over $34 million.

Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, “The Central New York Region is home to an experienced high-tech workforce and it's a perfect environment for JMA to continue to grow its operation. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York has significantly improved the business climate for high-tech manufacturers, resulting in companies that are busy creating jobs in support of our innovation economy.”

"JMA's expansion in Onondaga County is a testament to the success of our regionally-focused economic development strategy, and sends a clear signal that Central New York is open for business," Governor Andrew Cuomo said. "By putting in place policies that attract businesses who want to grow and expand in our communities, we are continuing our economic momentum and creating jobs across Upstate New York."

In addition to the Liverpool headquarters, the company also maintains R&D Centers in Richmond, Virginia, Chicago, Illinois as well as operations in Bologna, Italy and the Netherlands. Founded only four and a half years ago, JMA has more than 1000 employees, with 700 in New York State.

Central New York Regional Economic Development Council Co-Chairs CenterState CEO Rob Simpson and SUNY Upstate Medical University President Dr. Danielle Laraque-Arena said, “The decision by JMA to continue to grow its business in Central New York only serves to reinforce the efforts of the council and the CNYRising initiative. The move will allow the company to take full advantage of the area’s highly skilled workforce and will serve to bolster our efforts to move the region in the right direction as we continue to invest in solid companies that are busy creating jobs here.”
