Japan-Based Astemo Americas Expands Berea, Kentucky, Production Operations

Automotive components manufacturer Astemo Americas, Inc. plans to expand its operations in Berea, Kentucky. The more than $112 million project is expected to create 114 jobs in Madison County.

The investment will include the addition of approximately 300,000 square feet of production and warehouse space at the company’s two existing manufacturing facilities to increase production of hybrid electric-vehicle motors.

“Since we opened our first Kentucky plant in 1985, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has been a cornerstone of our U.S. operations,” said Astemo Americas President and CEO Tim Clark. “We especially appreciate the continued support of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority in helping us expand our operations in Berea to provide our customers with cutting-edge automotive components.”

To support the project the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved incentive agreements with the company through both the Kentucky Business Investment (KBI) program and Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act (KEIA).

“Kentucky continues to lead the way when it comes to advanced manufacturing and EV operations and this project represents another great company choosing to reinvest in the commonwealth,” noted Governor Andy Beshear. “The expansion will create 114 new job opportunities for Kentucky workers and their families. Astemo Americas, a division of Japan-based automotive supplier Astemo, Ltd., manufactures engine-management, electric powertrain and integrated vehicle-control systems for automotive manufacturers.
