New-Indy Containerboard Locates Plant in Catawba, South Carolina

New-Indy Containerboard, a manufacturer and supplier of recycled containerboard for the corrugated box industry, plans to invest $240 million to establish operations at a recently-acquired pulp and paper mill facility in Catawba, South Carolina.

Founded in 2012, New-Indy Containerboard uses 100% recycled fiber in its current manufacturing process. This acquisition will provide the ability to balance company product lines equally between virgin kraft and recycled containerboard.

The mill, located at 5300 Cureton Ferry Road in Catawba, currently produces lightweight communication papers. New-Indy Containerboard is investing in process equipment to convert the mill to ultra-lightweight, virgin kraft linerboard, improving the competitiveness of the facility. The York County mill will continue utilize wood from local suppliers in its operations. The equipment conversion and new operations are expected to be online during the fourth quarter of 2020.
