Canada-Based Magna International Plans Assembly Plant In Spartanburg County, South Carolina

Magna International, a leading global automotive supplier, is constructing a new seat manufacturing plant at Tyger River Industrial Park in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Representing its fourth manufacturing plant in South Carolina, the company is projected to invest $29 million in the facility, creating 480 new jobs over the next five years.

Located in the Tyger River Industrial Park on Highway 290, Magna’s new 230,000-square-foot seating plant is expected to be operational in June 2017. The facility will feature dedicated assembly and sequencing lines to supply seats to BMW’s nearby assembly plant. Magna currently has three manufacturing locations in South Carolina and employs approximately 1,450 people in the state.

As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

Headquartered in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, the company’s product capabilities include producing many parts of the automobile, such as the body, chassis, exterior, seating, powertrain, electronic, vision, closure and roof systems and modules, as well as contract manufacturing.

This $29 million and the 480 new jobs it means for Spartanburg County is a real reason to celebrate, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the commitment Magna International continues to show toward South Carolina,” Governor Nikki Haley noted.

Department of Commerce, Pacolet-Milliken Enterprises, Spartanburg Community College and all the utility providers, worked collaboratively to land the facility here. As a leading global automotive supplier, Spartanburg County will benefit from Magna’s investment now and in the future,” Spartanburg County Council and Board Member of the Economic Futures Group David Britt said.
