Chrysler to Reopen Seven Plants Later This Month

06/17/2009
One week after emerging from bankruptcy protection, Chrysler Group LLC has announced that it will restart production on June 29 at seven plants that have been closed since the company filed for bankruptcy on April 30. According to a company statement, the seven plants are: Sterling Heights Assembly in Sterling Heights, Michigan; Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan; St. Louis North Assembly in Fenton, Missouri; Toledo Supplier Park in Toledo, Ohio; Brampton Assembly in Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Windsor Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and Toluca Assembly in Toluca, Mexico. At the same time, the powertrain and stamping facilities that supply these plants will be operating. The Conner Avenue Assembly facility in Detroit, Michigan -- which assembles the Dodge Viper -- resumed production on June 15. All Chrysler Group plants will be closed during the company's previously announced summer break between July 13 and July 26. Chrysler Group is currently managed by a team controlled by Italian automaker Fiat, which owns a 20 percent stake in the company.
