Eli Lilly and Company Expands Kenosha County, Wisconsin, Manufacturing Operations
12/13/2024
The 100,000-square-foot facility, recently purchased by the company and located at the Prairie Highlands Corporate Park, will primarily produce two drugs: Mounjaro, a treatment for type 2 diabetes, and Zepbound, an anti-obesity medication. Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
“Today’s announcement represents our single largest U.S. manufacturing investment outside our home state of Indiana and will add to our ability to expand capacity to make both our existing and future pipeline of medicines right here in the Midwest,” said Executive Vice President and President of Lilly Manufacturing Operations Edgardo Hernandez. “We look forward to bringing high-wage, advanced manufacturing, engineering and science jobs to people in Wisconsin, a state that is becoming a critical geography in our global manufacturing operations.”
“Wisconsin’s status as a Regional Tech Hub in biohealth makes it a perfect fit for an innovative, blue-chip company like Eli Lilly,” noted Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes. “WEDC worked closely with Eli Lilly to meet its site selection and workforce needs, and we look forward to partnering with them to ensure their success in our state.”
“A global leader in pharmaceutical innovation, Lilly recognizes the strong educational systems and skilled workforce in the Milwaukee Region – essential assets that will support Lilly’s strong growth,” added Gale Klappa, co-chair of Milwaukee 7 and chairman of the board of WEC Energy Group. “This investment clearly underscores the emergence of our region as a hub for medical technology and manufacturing.”
“Lilly’s incredible investment here is a watershed moment for Kenosha County,” said Nicole Ryf, president of the Kenosha Area Business Alliance. “To have one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world choose to expand its manufacturing operations in our community is thrilling and speaks to the hard work our leadership has done across all levels to make Kenosha County a premier destination for new investment in the Milwaukee-Chicago corridor.”
