Lucid Motors Plans Southfield, Michigan, Engineering-Research Operations

Lucid Motors, an American OEM of all-electric vehicles, plans to establish engineering and R&D operations in Southfield, Michigan. The $10 million project is expected to create 262 jobs over three years.

"We want to track the best talent out there. and as we looked at those studies for hardware, engineers in particular, there’s no place like Michigan," said Gale Halsey, vice president of Lucid.

The project is being supported by a $6 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant, which requires that the 262 jobs be created by June 30, 2027.

“This project is important for Michigan because we know that we are in a global competition for the future of the electrification of the auto industry,” noted Joshua Hundt, an executive vice president and senior adviser at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

Lucid Group, Inc. is an American manufacturer of electric luxury sports cars and grand tourers. The company’s vehicles are designed in California and manufactured in Arizona.

“The technology in the latest EV is mind-blowing, and Lucid is really pushing the innovation envelope with the Gravity,” added Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership, which served as lead on the project. “This is exactly the kind of company we want to add to our automotive and mobility sector. As they innovate, they will grow, expand their footprint, create more jobs, and attract other innovators; strengthening our position as the Global Epicenter of Mobility.”
