Chewy Plans Distribution Hub in Goodyear, Arizona
12/19/2017
The 49-acre site that the company selected for its 802,671 square foot e-commerce facility is located south of Van Buren Street on 143rd Avenue in the Airport Gateway Development, a 230-acre master planned business park. According to Goodyear Economic Development, construction of the facility began in November in anticipation of taking occupancy in the second quarter of 2018.
“We’re excited to further expand Chewy fulfillment operations to Arizona, our first in the state and seventh in the country. We greatly appreciate the partnership with the city of Goodyear and look forward to investing in the local community with the creation of 700 new jobs,” said Ryan Cohen, Co-founder & CEO of Chewy, Inc. “In addition to job creation, our new fulfillment center will enhance our capacity and extend our delivery network in the southwest region, allowing us to better service Chewy customers with even faster delivery times.”
City economic development officials report as an incentive, Goodyear City Council approved a job creation agreement that waives development fees and provides incentives to a maximum of $910,000 after specific conditions are met by Chewy, Inc. The grant is in anticipation of a direct revenue infusion to the city of an estimated at $4.1 million over five years.
“Arizona offers the depth of talent a growing company like Chewy Inc. requires, and our geographic position provides the ideal location for the company to easily serve its customers in key markets around the world,” said Sandra Watson, Arizona Commerce Authority President & CEO. “We thank Chewy Inc. for its commitment to and investment in Arizona.”
"In addition to Greater Phoenix being an ideal strategic location geographically to reach a large consumer base, the access to talent continues to be a draw for companies looking to expand their operations,” said Chris Camacho, President & CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “I applaud Mayor Lord and her team for working to create a business-friendly community that is drawing innovative high-growth companies to the region, and join them in congratulating Chewy on this expansion to Greater Phoenix.
