06/18/2024
The new 500,000-square-foot facility will produce bio-based chemical products for use in wastewater treatment, industrial wastewater, construction, agriculture, and the energy sector. Production is scheduled for Fall 2025.
“American manufacturing is at a turning point, and we are proud to have the opportunity to work with the DOE in bringing critical chemical production capabilities onshore to communities like Marshall,” said Gaurab Chakrabarti, CEO of Solugen. “By scaling cutting-edge technologies, we are meeting domestic demand for innovative solutions and setting global standards for sustainable biomanufacturing.”
The project is being supported by a $213.6 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Programs Office. An additional $15 million will come from the Minnesota Forward Fund.
“This investment in sustainable manufacturing is a major win for Minnesota and a big step towards our goal of carbon free electricity by 2040,” noted Governor Tim Walz. “Solugen’s expansion will help reduce greenhouse gasses while creating jobs and placing Minnesota at the forefront of biotechnology and biomanufacturing. With this partnership we’re ensuring a greener future and putting Minnesota on the map as a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Solugen’s first commercial production plant, Bioforge Houston, opened in 2021 and is the world's first scalable sustainable molecule factory for bio-based chemicals.
