Swiss-Based Octapharma Plans Rock Hill, South Carolina, Manufacturing Operations

Swiss-based biopharmaceutical manufacturer Octapharma plans to establish operations in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The $1.5 billion project is expected to create 1,500 jobs in York County.

The investment will include the construction of a new manufacturing facility located at the Palmetto Research Park which will focus on the company’s plasma donation operations. Production is scheduled to begin in the mid-2030s.

"Octapharma appreciates the good-faith work of every elected official and staff member in York County and Rock Hill who helped bring this to fruition," said Flemming Nielsen, President of Octapharma USA. "We also want to thank Governor McMaster and South Carolina's federal and state delegation for their support in welcoming Octapharma to the Palmetto State. South Carolina's talented workforce, strong life sciences ecosystem, and pro-business environment made it clear this was the right home for our first US manufacturing facility."

To support the project, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits. The council also awarded a $65 million Closing Fund grant to York County to assist with site preparation, building construction, and road improvements.

This landmark project underscores why global companies choose the Palmetto State to manufacture, innovate and establish corporate operations, further advancing our burgeoning life sciences industry,” noted South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III.

Octapharma is a biopharmaceutical company that develops and manufactures plasma-derived therapies, recombinant proteins, and cell therapies for the treatment of hematologic, immunologic, and critical care conditions.
